  • Very Impressive - Jetta S Stick

It is really almost hard to believe how good a car this is! But it definitely is. I bought a '19 Jetta S with Manual transmission and Driver Assist package (blind spot, front collision avoidance technology and cross traffic alert in rear). My car also had VW maintenance at 10,000 and 20,000 miles, the full Roadside Assistance kit for trunk, All weather mats front and rear and Car-Go trunk liner. Sticker price was 20,425; I bought it for 16,500. I added the hard wired Day / Night rearview mirror with Homelink (a very smart option IMO). My car had Bridgestone tires which I preferred. I am totally impressed with the car. Fit and finish are excellent. The lines are much better than the older models. The interior is quiet and comfortable even though this is a base model. Apple Car Play works as smoothly as you would expect and the audio head is perfectly sufficient for me. Yes, I agree that Sirius/XM would have been nice, but I have SXM on my iPhone from a mobile subscription and it plays fine for me through Bluetooth on the VW head. I also really like the electronic parking brake. Most cars with this price point have a manual parking brake. The electronic one on this car allows you to start out forward or in reverse with the parking brake active and it automatically disengages when you let out the clutch. Found this out in reading the Owner's Manual and so glad I found this nice feature. My daughter leases a 2018 VW Tiguan S and, like her, I find the S trim to be more than sufficient on this car. Who wouldn't want the SE or SEL trim? But at more than 3,000 more than what I paid, I am perfectly happy with all that is packed into the S model. VW called this one right! I am in awe of the responsiveness of the 1.4T motor with the Manual transmission as well as the impressive gas mileage (first drive on highway got me just shy of 42 mpg). The 6 speed stick shifter is truly silky smooth, as good as past BMW's I have owned. The German design and technology is evident throughout. The day after delivery, I had to drive on secondary roads on a 100 mile trip. The weather conditions were just horrible -- high winds, slushy roads, heavy rain / freezing rain / snow. The car remained quiet, responsive, non-flappable and simply stuck to the highway regardless of the wind gusts. I felt very safe and comfortable throughout. I managed another 42 mpg going 60-62 mph. I mainly got this car to use as a tow vehicle behind my 45' motor coach, but I am so impressed with it that it will definitely be a daily driver for me for a lot of the time. I am a big car guy, having owned at least 140 new cars over the years and to be as impressed with this one as I am says a lot. The dealer does not sell lots of S models and not many sticks at all; I am really glad I found this one equipped as it was and made my deal for it. And how about the incredible VW 6 year / 72,000 mile warranty?? You can run it for three years and still have another three year bumper to bumper warranty which is transferrable to a new owner. Fabulous deal! I am very, very happy with my purchase. VW is doing it right on this car!
  • Best car I have ever owned.

First I have to say Thank you Volkswagen for building a great car. I was hesitant to buy a Volkswagen til I met two people driving a Jetta and a Passat, both cars have more than 160k. When I asked them how is their cars, they both said excellent (*_*). As you see from the photo I got 53 MPG drove for 180 miles about 80% highway 20% city with the air condition ON, when I stopped at the gas station I topped the tank all the way, I filled 3.88 gallons so I got 46.3 MPG. As for fuel mileage it is the best car I ever owned so far. The seating is very comfortable front and rear. The sunroof is big I love it when it’s raining. The beats sound system is very very nice but not the best. Highway driving is very good compare to other cars, you feel the car is solid. The engine has adequate power for the car size even with 4 people ( 610 lbs total weight with full tank of fuel ). The aircondition is very cold. I bought the SEL trim level, but the S trim is very basic, yes it comes with nice features such as automatic transmission, powered window and mirror, apple car play, but for a little more about $3000 you can get the SE trim that has a lot of features such as the Rims, the leatherette seats, sun roof, rear seat arm rest, Heated front seats, Forward Collision Warning and Autonomous Emergency Braking, Climatronic® dual-zone automatic climate control, Heated side mirrors..etc. if you can afford the $3000 then go for an SE trim level. If you can afford $25000 then you must get the SEL trim level like mine, it’s very luxurious with so many options such as adaptive cruise control, beats sound system, 10 colors interior lights, the digital dash, 4 driving modes ( economy, normal , sport, and custom ). Things that I didn’t like about the Jetta are, 1- The center front Air condition vents are low, if both front passenger and driver are resting their arm on the arm rest then they will be blocking the air flow to the back passengers, I solve the problem by adjusting the air vent to the up position and it helps a little, the cooling is very good but I wish if the vents were higher. 2- The Jetta has only 1 USB data. 3- No Aircondition vents for the rear seat passengers especially the front center AC vents are located low. 4- No End call on the steering wheel, you have to end the call from the touch screen. 5- 1 charging USB in the center console, it should be in the back seat. I made a mistake, when I bought my SEL Jetta I didn’t know that there was a cold weather package available in the market, you will get a remote engine start, heated rear seat, and heated windshield washer, all of these are for $450 more, remember you can get it the ( SE, R line, and SEL ). I had to install a remote start at the dealer it cost me $739. Overall, this is a perfect car. If you are considering buying a small car you may want to pay a Volkswagen dealer a visit. yes there are 5 things that I don’t like about the Jetta, but nothing really serious, I will recommend this car to my friends and family, and definitely I am buying another one next year for my Son. Again, thank you so much Volkswagen for the best warranty 6years/72000 miles.
  • An absolute hoot to drive

Bought a leftover 2019 GLI S a couple weeks ago. When looking for a practical, engaging and mature car, there aren't too many options south of $45k. With the 6 speed manual, this car is an absolute blast to drive (I'm sure the 7sp DSG is comparably fun). Like others, I'm slightly disappointed with the cheaper plastics and spartan entertainment options but those are the only complaints! The engine has more than enough power to make the car a rocket. The ride is adequate given the price point, and there is plenty of interior space for my wife and teenage child. Aside from the ear to ear grin factor, I'm absolutely stunned that I'm averaging 34 mpg in mixed driving. If you're looking for a reasonably priced car that is fun to drive, has plenty of space, gets great gas mileage and looks good - you'd be doing yourself a great disservice if a GLI wasnt on your short list to explore!
