The Chevrolet Equinox Stands Tall Against the Competition

The Chevy Equinox has been a popular SUV here at DeFouw Automotive, and across the country, ever since it first debuted in 2005. The five-passenger crossover, which effortlessly blends style and the latest features with legendary Chevrolet quality and caliber, has undergone a lot of changes over the years, but it remains one of our favorite vehicles in Lafayette.

For the current model year, the Chevy Equinox has updated technology to help keep Indiana drivers stay safely connected behind the wheel. It also adds new features and makes other features more widely available across trim levels. All these changes make the Equinox better than ever. But, we understand that there are a lot of other crossover SUVs out there that may be vying for your attention. We want to help you understand everything that sets our Chevy SUV apart from the competition, and help you make the best buying decision for your next vehicle. We've put together this comparison page for you, so you can see exactly how the Equinox dominates in any competition.

The 2019 Chevrolet Equinox vs. the 2019 Honda CR-V

Both longtime options for crossover shoppers, the 2019 Chevy Equinox and the 2019 Honda CR-V have a lot of similarities on the surface. Both seat five people comfortably, and both have useful, cavernous amounts of rear cargo space. But, if you delve a little closer and look at the numbers of these two model side by side, you'll note a few different areas where the Chevy SUV clearly comes out ahead.

If you're considering either of these two popular models, check out the research we've compiled here for you first. We think you'll agree that the Chevy Equinox is more than equal to the Honda CR-V. In fact, it dominates in comparison.

Compare Performance

  • Engine options. The Equinox has three great engine options available, while the 2019 Honda CR-V only has two.
  • Diesel power option. One engine option for the Chevy is an efficient diesel-powered engine, while the CR-V doesn't have diesel power available.
  • Towing. More power means more utility for the Chevy Equinox as well. The Equinox has a greater towing capacity at 1,500 to 3,000 pounds, while the Honda CR-V tops out at 1,500 pounds.

Compare Safety

  • Advanced safety. Both of these SUVs have a roster of advanced safety features and driver assistance features available on various trims.
  • Safety for teenaged drivers. Every Chevy Equinox offers standard the unique Chevy Teen Driver system, which lets parents place certain controls on the vehicle for their teenaged drivers. The Honda CR-V doesn't offer a feature like this in its lineup, and certainly not as a standard amenity.

Compare Comfort and Convenience

  • Standard smartphone integration. Regardless of which Chevy Equinox trim level you fall for, you can look forward to a number of exciting, cutting-edge tech features. For example, each trim level in the lineup comes with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone integration, while the 2019 Honda CR-V, on the other hand, doesn't offer these features standard.
  • Standard tech. Another standard feature for the Equinox is OnStar Communications with 4G LTE and Wi-Fi hotspot. The Honda CR-V doesn't offer anything like this in its lineup, never mind as a standard feature.
  • Standard connectivity. The Equinox gives you standard, multiple USB ports in both the front and the backseat, while the Honda only offers backseat USB ports on upper trim levels.

The 2019 Chevrolet Equinox vs. the 2019 Ford Escape

Love the legendary quality of Chevrolet? The Equinox is a great choice for your next five-passenger SUV. It has all the virtues, innovation, and reliability inherent in the Chevrolet name, all in a spacious SUV that can easily carry all of the people and all of the cargo you want to take with you.

You'll never go wrong with a top-quality Chevy. But, we know other American automotive brand names may be vying for your attention. Here, we break down the key difference between our Equinox SUV and the Ford Escape. We think you'll agree the Chevy is the SUV to beat in this comparison.

Compare Performance

  • Efficiency. With a 28 mpg combined rating, and a range of 387 miles in the city and 477 miles on the highway, the Equinox beats the Ford Escape in fuel efficiency. The Ford gets only a 24-mpg combined rating, and it has a range of 330 miles in the city and 455 miles on the highway.
  • Engine options. Both SUVs have a range of three engines for drivers. But, they're very different powertrains between the two models. While the Equinox has two turbocharged four-cylinder gas-powered engines and one diesel to choose from, the Ford Escape has one non-turbocharged four-cylinder and two turbocharged four-cylinder options, none of which are diesel.

Compare Comfort and Convenience

  • Elbow room. In both the front and the backseats, the Equinox has more elbow room and shoulder room side to side, which is very important if you're seating three adults next to each other in the backseat
  • Headroom and legroom. The Equinox also has more front seat headroom and more backseat legroom than the Ford, making it more comfortable for your taller passengers.

Compare Technology

  • Standard tech amenities. The Chevy Equinox gives drivers more bang for their buck in terms of connectivity and technology features than the Escape, too. For example, every trim level for the Equinox lineup comes with standard Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. However, people looking at the Escape have to move up trim levels and spend more money to get the same technology.

Reading numbers and side-by-side data is one way to understand why the Equinox is superior to the competition. But, the best way to really understand it is to test drive a Chevy in person.
